Ray Obiedo & Mambo Caribe
Saturday March 21st
Mill Valley Masonic
19 Corte Madera Ave Mill Valley

Mambo Caribe is made up of some the finest jazz musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area. With its heavy influence of Afro Cuban Rhythms, a traditional West Coast Latin sound is always at the core of the ensemble. Guitarist/composer, Ray Obiedo, formed this group in 2002 to further explore his love of Latin music. His compositions for the group are drawn from many musical influences, including mainstream Latin,
Brasilian, Afro/Funk, Caribbean as well as other music genres The rhythm section includes some of Obiedo’s mainstays over the past few years, steel pan master Jeff Narell, pianist David K. Mathews, bassist Marc van Wageningen, drummer Paul van Wageningen, and percussionist Jon Otis. The great Latin percussionist, Pete Escovedo, currently plays timbales with the group as often as his schedule allows. Mambo Caribe works with a wonderfully rich array of textures and colors, melding together all of it’s musical elements for a delightfully distinct Bay Area flavor.
