Scott Hamilton

“Scott Hamilton is the premier mainstream saxophonist of today”
All About Jazz

Hamilton's rare Bay Area  appearance celebrates the release of pianist Larry Vuckovich’s new CD “Somethin’ Special.” This album is the most recent of the forty plus albums that Hamilton has recorded.  Joining  Hamilton and Vuckovich will be an astonishing lineup of Bay Area Jazz greats: Noel Jewkes, “the best mainstream reedman in the Bay Area”; Harold Jones, drummer for Tony Bennett and Count Basie; Jackie Ryan, extraordinary jazz vocalist; plus bassist Paul Keller and drummer Chuck McPherson.

Scott  Hamilton emerged as a unique jazz artist in the 1970s. He was one of the few musicians of real talent who played in the tradition of the classic jazz tenor saxophone established by Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins, Zoot Sims and Don Byas.  Few other young players during the fusion era were exploring pre-bop jazz at his high level.   Hamilton has mostly performed as a leader, sometimes sharing the spotlight with Warren Vache, Ruby Braff, Rosemary Clooney, the Concord Jazz All-Stars, or George Wein's Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars.

The beautifully situated Horizons/Ondine's at 558 Bridgeway in Sausalito displays spectacular views of the City and is the perfect intimate setting to hear live jazz played by these exceptional musicians. The artists will perform arrangements from Vuckovich’s new album that include compositions of jazz masters such as Dexter Gordon, Sonny Clark, Horace Sliver plus American Standards and originals from Swing to Bebop and Post Bop.
